PtC Corps Summer I: Culture, Civics & Science

Our first week at the PtC Corps was a blast! We started out with learning the history and culture of Washington, DC, the DC Wharf and the Potomac River.

Sustainability was one of our main themes and learning of ways to be sustainable citizens. PtC Corps members will be more mindful about the fish they eat, protecting the waterways and respecting the Earth! Speaking of the Earth, geological wonders were explored at Skyline Caverns (check out those photos).

Gaming on the waterfront included a serious scavenger hunt to learn about the DC Wharf's history and present day fun. The team that won enjoyed prizes and bragging rights for the rest of the day. PtC Corps members played a little golf with a golf coach at East Potomac Park. Oh! They even learned crab picking techniques just in case they want to enter the next competition on the Maryland Eastern Shore.

Our artistic side was challenged with watercolor painting with Peace thru Culture's Resident Artist, Patricia Smith. The paintings were inspired by the flowers in the Smithsonian Gardens. They even enjoyed a movie and the Artechouse DC to stay cool.

Lunch was a great way to introduce various cultures from burgers to bento boxes and more.

Yes, we did a lot in one week! To wind down, we hosted a one day PtC Self Care Retreat. Yoga and meditation walking on the labyrinth, aromatherapy meditation bracelet and soothing skin concoctions were all part of this relaxing day.
